Singapore bites - 5 budget spots for the busy tourist

Being one of the countries with lowest alcohol consumption on Earth, Singapore is not a cheap place when it comes to wining and dining. That does not make it impossible to find nice stuff at a reasonable price, but really... We are coming from Spain so I guess that maybe that is one of the reasons why gourmet is not really a priority during the vacation time. We favor seeing more rather than spending a reasonable amount of time and money on food.

As busy tourists exploring the city, here come our top 5...

5) Hawkers - Satay by the Bay or any other advised by your hotel
We had nice breakfast at the hotel everyday, so lunch always turned into a nice snack and a cool drink. Here we picked some lime juice - my absolute favourite in the city - and skip the meat. Still, judging by the packed tables with locals and shared food, it seems quite a good spot for a laid back lunch.



4) The Coffee Bean and the Tea Leaf [WEB]
A classic of SE Asia - I still remember that salmon scramble I had for breakfast in Brunei - some spots serve all day breakfast but overall, you can always find fresh wraps and sandwiches (like this salmon one that became a favourite) all over the city. So for less than 10€ you get a coffee, a wrap and a shared cake.



3) Piedra Negra - Haiji Lane [WEB]
The coolest street in the city wouldn't be so cool without this Mexican restaurant that makes cool mojitos and guacamole ON THE SPOT - the guy comes out and mashes the avocado right there. Perfect place after shopping down Singapore's version of Harajuku Cat Street in Tokyo.


2) Renn Thai - Clarke Quay [WEB]
We picked this place in NYE as it is a family tradition to end the year with some Thai stuff. Any of the many places in the area will probably work just as fine. But I just love the pineapple rice...



1) Kotobuki - Raffles One Place, Anson Road or any other [WEB]
My face says it all. If you know what to order (we picked salmon roll, gyoza, tamagoyaki and goya champuru - okinawan style vegetable stir fry) and it was the yummiest - or maybe the place where I went to in hungriest state... No better sauce than hunger, my mum always said (see picture at the top).
