Malaga「マラガ」: Muelle Uno 「港一」

muelle uno malaga

When we came to Malaga for the first time ever, Muelle Uno was under construction. I still remember running through it and reaching a point without exit :S Luckily is now ready for long afternoon walks, morning runs and lazy ice-creams anytime.

As everything else around here, it might not be as sophisticated as Tokyo, but shines with a special light, that eventually warms up the deepest of your heart. Guess that's the reason, along with the yummy espetos (roasted fist on a skewer, sold by 2€ along the beach) why Scandinavians love this.

Malaga backstreets「

malaga old town

It's been a week since we physically landed, but somehow it feels we are still floating somewhere between Spain and Japan. What can I say. It's a weird feeling. I am not a foreigner, but I don't feel local either. 8 years away and a couple of international moves... Well, I guess they have enough impact on your personality to turn you into some kind of nomad - still, if you ask me for home, then I'll certainly answer Södermalm.

On the sunny side of things, fruit is cheap, the sun shines more or less everyday and hitting the beach, takes a 20' stroll from home. Enrique is driving "the health diet" which fits in nicely with the controlled working hours. We eat lots of fruit, get proper sleep and spend as little time as possible home. As soon as we have settled (i.e. found an empty apartment to move in, when our furniture arrives) we will start exercising regularly. Now, weekdays are a blend of paperwork, bus stop waiting lines and all sorts of chores required when you move into a new house, the bulb breaks, you need a towel and all that.

Malaga is getting ready for the Holy Week parades and people are renting out their balconies (!!). Sometimes we think is an apartment for rent... But nope, just the balcony!  The hairdresser told Enrique that there is one particularly expensive balcony in their building, because of the "double curve". The guys carrying the throne need to do some sort of special moves with the heavy and holy Saint, so it is really fun to watch - apparently.

I said this hundred thousand times, Spain and Japan are very similar: Aren't the Omikoshi quite the same as the Holy Week's Thrones?

Main difference is that Andalusian Thrones are heavier (up to 5000kg) and more of an event. An app to track the Thrones around the city was released today (!!). But it makes perfect sense, as the coolest is not when the Trone is being walked around (except for the double curve) the best is to see it being "locked in" the destination church. Seriously. I saw masses of people running after the "locking moment" yesterday.

As said before, my guess is that the years away make you develop an eye for the beauty in the local details, which are often missed when living in the same place for a long while. Here's a walk around our current neighborhood (the center of Malaga) on the first sunny Saturday of the Spring.

Hope you like it (^_^)

I really like the many XIX Century houses.

I really like the colors and baroque shapes. But yes, I'd rather throw down all the internal walls and turn these flats into a single-open-space loft, for the sake of contrast.

After a long walk, time for an early dinner (yes we are those eating 20:30) at my hands-down favorite place, which is called Lechuga and specializes in salads. My favorite is the Nordic one, because it comes with something that reminds me SO MUCH of skagenröra that feels like being in Stockholm, having some yummy räksallad.

Expat Life 2.0 - Repats in Malaga

traditional flamenco couple postcard

Cuando la gente me pregunta "what are you interested in?" siempre respondo "people, in particular those who are radically different from me".

Like the legend of the Phoenix, all ends with beginnings.

Same same, but different :) you are very welcome to stick with us.

When I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be

Pretty song, even more beautiful everyday life in Japan.

Odaiba 「

The fun thing about Tokyo is how a short train ride takes you to kitsch sights.

Like the heart illuminated building. Or the ferris wheel with cat-face. This is the place where teens go for dates, tourists go duty-free shopping (at LAOS in Venus Fort) and dogs go try new styles, in the stores that sell the largest amount of dog outfits I've seen in my life (we're talking about a floor packed of them).

Odaiba is worth a visit, assuming you're in town.

Byakko 「白虎」: White Day Baby

bengal kitten
Byakko 「白虎」"white tiger", 4 weeks old.

As we learned last year, 14th of March is the day when (in Japan) man give their female colleagues chocolates. Last year, I received a bunch of them. Today, there was literally nothing by my desk.

Maybe I turned bossy - or just a bit more of a boss.

Nja... Actually quite the opposite, I have the best colleagues ever   :)

Thing is. Not receiving chocolates today, made me actually feel "much better". Like the final proof.  Now it's officially accepted, I am one of them. No need to waste energy, money or bother about buying cute sweets. I am not different from any other guy in the team. And we are all way too busy, to waste time on this. Man, that was a good day.

2014, hasn't been easy so far. It hit hard so far, but also taught me an number of important lessons.

In particular, what mum meant when warning "if I don't teach you to take no for an answer, sooner or later, life will." Sometimes, life is not fair. It hurts. It's not your fault. You couldn't have done any better. You could't try any harder. It's how it is. You just gotta take it. Hope for a U-turn anytime soon.

When a door closes, a window opens. A broken heart heals, another dream comes true.

I was hurt. Suddenly, Byakko came into the picture. Better said, will come in May - as he is too young to be separated from his mum. Suddenly, there is a new white light of hope. A new reason to fight, a lovely furry ball to look forward to, to cuddle with... Problems shrink, I start to smile again.

What's another stripe, for a tiger?

Panasonic Beauty : Japanese Kistch

panasonic face roller

panasonic head massage

4. Steam Box
Vapor, pero a lo bestia. Que ayuda a mantenerse joven, blanca y bella. Esta mujer dice feeling "kanji"「感じ」cada 3 segundos.
panasonic steam tool

5. Ultrasonic roll - Dark spots
Los puntos negros, combatidos cual Star Trek.

5. Eyelash Curler

Right in front of Skytree, by the river, was this gorgeous Sakura Tree in full bloom. We stopped by and captured the little birdies. That reminded me so much of my lovely friend Stina. I feel it won't be long till we gather for a new adventure together. Lil' Birdie, I love you.
