Vacation mode: ON!
Perched atop the hill, El Gibralfaro is an old arab fortress which was built in the 8th century by Abd ar-Rahman I andthen rebuilt in the 14th century, when Malaga became the main port for the emirate of Granada.
From 2PM on Sundays, the visit is free, both for this and the Alcazaba. The slippery steps that guide you uphill offer stunning views of the city, the wharf, the bullfighting ring and Paseo de España, filled with beautiful tropical plants.
The complex is rather big but well maintained. It is rather cool to walk around walls and hidden stairs, imagining yourself as a middle-age knight defending your emirate!
Colorful palm trees
Pretty flowers
A sunny beach :D
