Arikok National Park covers roughly 20% of Aruba. The park is surrounded by the element beaten coastline which is broken by bays and other amazing features, like scary cliffs as well as Conchi Natural Pool where we hike today. There are many tours arranged to explore the area in 4x4 or quad. We chose to walk, simply because it is the easiest option when you don't really plan all the details of your vacation.
Exploring this volcanic terrain is a bit like walking on the space while being surrounded by goats. Since I saw it in Hawaii for the first time, I am completely in love with the beautiful contrast between the red soil and the turquoise waters. This time, the waves were so strong that - despite the many people taking a dip - it was not officially allowed to bath in the natural pool. Being there during 30' clearly gives you an understanding of the reason why... When the waves break, the pool fills up with water, which then comes out and the circle starts all over again. Waves come un groups, so a group of large waves can really fill the pool a bit "too much" and trick you into a nasty situation. Most of the times, nothing bad should happen. But after seeing the dead body count at the Queen's Bath, I rather stay away.
Some go by car, we go by walk. A bit like this goat, takes a bit longer but hey... More time to admire the amazing scenery.
Cute little cactus.
The quads.
Finally, we are coming to Conchi Natural Pool.
Time to descend into the beach.
The cliff surrounding it is literally packed with goats
Amazing
Yay! We made it. I did not feel like swimming but just sitting nearby was rather refreshing.
The classic group of tourists carried there by quad, completely unaware of the risk.
I have never really been afraid of the sea, but I do understand and respect its power.
