Bonaire : Kitesurfing

Bonaire kitesurfing guide

Bonaire is famous for its steady trade winds, turquoise waters, healthy fringe coral reef inhabited by rainbow tropical fish banks and pink flamingos. Blend this amazing nature together with an average air and water temperature of 27C (80F) year round and bang, there it comes the ultimate Caribbean Paradise with the secret plus of laying outside the hurricane belt.

Bonaire may only have 10K inhabitants - certainly outnumbered by flamingos, but its over 100 dive sites, salt lakes and surfing bays make it a perfect destination if you are into diving, hiking, kite(wind) surfing or plain cute animals, like wild donkeys, goats and iguanas.

For me, it was the place when I managed to overcome the fear and get into the water again, after the slightly traumatising experience of breaking my toe while kitsurfing in Tarifa. One may think that it ain't such a huge problem, but trust me... Everyday things like driving to work, taking a shower, walking to the market or wearing proper attire for a customer meeting are a hurdle when your foot is somewhat swollen and partially covered by a bandage, hurting every time you move. Hence, I wrote the tropical suitcase guide, so you guys reading this always wear your booties and don't end up with silly injuries, unlike me. The picture says it all about how happy I was when I went out of the water, after perfectly controlling the kite and standing twice, for a couple of seconds. Kitesurfing is not easy, but nothing worth in life is, right?

Bonaire is the perfect place if you like diving, kitesurfing or windsurfing, regardless of your level there will be a dreamy bay for you to enjoy the ride. If you are into kite, we recommend you to check out Kiteboarding Bonaire, great school with great instructors and material.

Lac Bay is a World famous windsurf paradise bay - kitsurf is strictly forbidden here,  but even if you are not really sailing, the scenary makes up for a cool day in the sun - even though it is forbidden to swim beyond the rope which is 1m away from the coast line.
