Sometimes people have a hard time understanding.
Why I often claim that our home is still, many thousands of kilometres North. I don't expect anyone to understand, what Södermalm means to me. Having found my dream home, my job, my love, myself. Gotten ready for our wedding, grown up. When I come back to those streets, I still remember that very first day. When I realized this vintage magic, waiting on the South side of town. I still lived in the student residence, but I loved the vibe and promised myself, to find a flat there, at some point in life.
Take a train to Medborgarplatsen and take your time, to explore the streets South of Folkungagatan. This area is called SoFo and it is a sin not to check it out if you happen to be in town.
Nytorget is that tiny square, right below Sofia Kyrka, where the hipsters laze around in lovely summer days. Nearby, Skånegatan with its myriad restaurants, disco and fashion stores awaits, only shadowed by Åsögatan (packed with interior boutiques and the coolest Acne Boutique in town) and Bondegatan, where the mythic Café String is.
Pass by Greta Garbo Square (yep, she was from the hood too) and soon you are in a new area to explore. Packed with street markets some Saturdays, nice cafés year round.
